In December 2019, European Commission published the European Green Deal - an ambitious growth strategy which sets out a plan for an economy-wide transition to achieve climate neutrality in Europe by the year 2050. Among various other measures, the Green Deal strives to increase the EU’s greenhouse gas emission reductions target for the year 2030 and to introduce more stringent air quality standards. Transportation sector, which accounts for a quarter of the EU’s total greenhouse gas emissions, is expected to achieve a 90% reduction in transport emissions by the year 2050.

To learn more about the European Green Deal's implications for the maritime industry, we are delighted to invite interested stakeholders to the European Green Deal: Setting the Course for Sustainable Maritime Industry seminar which is organised in Brussels, Belgium on Tuesday, the 5th of May.

The focus of the seminar is on topics such as:

  • The European Green Deal - what are the implications for maritime industry?
  • The role of digital tools and solutions in increasing eco-efficiency in vessel performance, cargo stowage and shipyard processes
  • Policy measures needed to support prosperous and sustainable development in maritime industry

The seminar features thought-provoking speakers from the industry, research and policy sides of the field, including keynote speeches from:

  • Jutta Paulus - Member of the European Parliament & ENVI-committee’s rapporteur for the revision of the MRV file of CO₂ emissions from maritime transport
  • Benoît Loicq - Environment & Technical Director, SEA Europe
